Rashes
Hives
- Hives or Urticaria are raised, pruritic (itchy), pink patches that often present rapidly
- May arise from an allergic environmental exposure, new medications, perfumes, foods, hot / cold weather conditions, and even exercise
- Commonly treated with antihistamine medications and acute hives commonly resolve within 24-48 hours
Scabies
- Intensely pruritic (itchy) skin rash caused by a mite that burrows into the skin
- Contagious and can easily spread through close skin to skin contact
- Itching is often reported to be increased at night
- Effectively treated with prescription creams and oral medications
Lichen Planus
- Lichen planus is an inflammatory skin condition often treated with topical corticosteroids.
- May cause eruptions of the skin, mucous membranes, and affect the nails
- Lichen planus of the skin presents in multiple forms and is known to present with the six “P”s of planar (flat-topped), purple, polygonal, pruritic, papules, and plaques.
