Bonnie Straka, MD

Dr. Bonnie Straka is the founder and medical director of Albemarle Dermatology Associates and Signature Medical Spa. She is a board-certified dermatologist who has served medical, surgical, and aesthetic patients in Charlottesville since 1991. Dr. Straka is a member of the American Academy of Dermatology, the Virginia Dermatology Society, the Medical Society of Virginia and the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery. A summa cum laude graduate of Williams College, she earned her medical degree from the University of Connecticut and completed a residency in dermatology at the University of Virginia. She is the wife of mystery novelist Andy Straka and mom to Chris, Kelci, Lily, Aimee, Noelle, and Luke. Dr. Straka is an adoption advocate, a lover of animals and a follower of Jesus Christ. She also enjoys hiking, reading and anything chocolate.

Sara Hawken, NP

Sara Hawken is a certified Adult Health Nurse Practitioner specializing in dermatology. She has over 15 years of clinical nursing experience and is a member of the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners, the Dermatology Nurses’ Association and Sigma Theta Tau. She was chosen as the prestigious President’s Award Recipient in 2014 for the “Highest Standards of Clinical Excellence” from Augusta Medical Group in Fishersville, VA. She has a nursing degree from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio and a Master’s degree from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. As an ROTC graduate she served 5 years as a commissioned officer in the United States Air Force Nurse Corps. She lives in Charlottesville with her husband, 4 sons, and baby daughter. She multi-tasks too much, but tries to find the time to read and cook when possible.

Sara Wilson, PA

Sara Wilson is a board-certified Physician Assistant specializing in dermatology and is a Fellow member of the Society of Dermatology Physician Assistants. She received her undergraduate training at James Madison University and graduated Summa Cum Laude from Murphy Deming College of Health Sciences Physician Assistant Program. Sara’s career as a PA began at a local Mohs surgery practice, where she participated in surgical procedures to treat various skin cancers.

Prior to PA school, Sara worked for two years at Albemarle Dermatology Associates as a Medical Assistant, which is where her love of dermatology first began. She is thrilled to be a part of the clinical team and provide excellent dermatological care to her patients.

Beyond her professional life, Sara enjoys spending time with her family and exploring nature with her golden retriever.

ALINA ZUFALL, MD

Dr. Alina Zufall specializes in all areas of dermatology, including pediatric, general, surgical, and cosmetic care. She earned her undergraduate and medical degrees from the University of Virginia and completed her dermatology residency at New York Medical College. There, she gained extensive experience working with diverse patient populations at hospitals in East Harlem and Coney Island, as well as in a West Village private practice. Her training equipped her with the skills and knowledge to address the unique needs of patients with skin of color, an area where she has developed expertise. Dr. Zufall is dedicated to building strong patient relationships and addressing all their dermatological needs, from skin cancer treatment to guiding them through the aging process. Beyond her professional life, she enjoys hobbies such as sewing clothing, painting, and caring for her thriving houseplants.

LAURA BOLMEY, FNP

Laura Bolmey is a board-certified Family Nurse Practitioner specializing in dermatology and a Diplomate Fellow member of the Society of Dermatology Physician Assistants. She earned her nursing degree from Johns Hopkins University and completed her advanced practice training at Maryville University, where she built a strong foundation in both medical and holistic approaches to care. Before becoming a nurse practitioner, Laura worked for nine years with Albemarle Dermatology Associates, where she developed her passion for dermatology and came to view the office as her second family. Laura has a special interest in treating chronic dermatologic conditions such as psoriasis and eczema, as well as skin concerns during pregnancy, including acne and melasma, with safe, evidence-based care. She lives in Charlottesville with her husband Nick, son, three cats, and dog, and enjoys pickleball, gardening, and reading.
